ENGLISH MYTHICAL MONSTER MANIA!!

For this half term we have been studying Myths. As none of us have ever written a Myth before it was a new and exciting prospect for all of us. We started off by reading Apollo. We studied the elements of the Myth and talked about the things that it had in common with other stories we read today. We noticed it had a happy ending just like a fairy tale and there was even a damsel in distress! We studied connectives for a few weeks so we could put them in our Myth. After looking at another Myth, Odysseus and the Cyclops. It was like a comic strip so we had to write a sentence for each picture. After that we finally started our Myth!
We had to use real Greek names so with the help of my trusty Myth book I was able to use a real Greek Goddess, Aphrodite. We used our own Mythical monsters to give it more fun!

Thoughts about Year 5

Hi, I'm Reya and I'm in year 5! Year 5 is really great because you get to learn loads of cool stuff like Space, Ancient Greeks and Myths. Mr Bates is really great because we can all have a laugh together! We all get to read at home time (If we want to!) so we never want to go home! We do loads of Art because Mr Bates is an Author and Illustrator. We do ICT every Tuesday and we make greek pots. It's really fun!

History topic (Term 1)

Hi I'm Amy Studer and I'm in year 5. I am going to tell you about our History topic which is about the ancient Greeks! In ICT we looked for pictures that illustrated the climate, the weather and the landscape including the buildings and temples of Greece! We printed the pictures off and stuck them on A3 piece of paper! Some People made little booklets and some made a collage. Afterwards we concentrated on Greek pots. We learnt that we could tell a lot about what life would be like then because there are pictures of wars and battles (they normally include rich against poor) and woman sewing or weaving on them. From this we thought about what we would put on a pot to show what our life is like and the things we like to do! We each received a plain pot on a piece of paper (of course) and we were told we could draw anything we liked on it as long as it showed what we like to do. After that we went onto the computers and found a website that we could make pots on. We had a go and made some pots with funny designs on them. Then we discussed the good things about designing them on the computers and the bad things. 'It's bad because on this site if you make a mistake you have to start again from scratch.' was one that came up a lot. Over all most of us agreed that we preferred to hand draw it instead of on the computer!

Note: We showed some of our pots in year 5s' Assembly!

Your sincerly Amy
